about this site

I've always been looking for cool places to ride my bike and having a family now, means Im looking for cool places for everyone to ride their bike.

I started out towing the kids in a trailer, which gradually became heavier and heavier,, then adding the halfbike, so they could sit on the back and pedal, and at the same time did short easy rides on balance bikes and training wheel. Now they can tackle much longer rides and we can explore some more challenging locations. I have written a few posts about other cities, Canberra for example is a great place for Family bike riding with hundreds of kilometres of bike path, Hobart now has a good cyclepath along the river andPerth has loads of great cyclepaths with a great outdoorsy lifestyle.

Im fortunate to live right next to the cycling centre of Sydney- Sydney Olympic park and the Parramatta river, so I do tend to waffle on about the great rides that are possible in the area. Ive done over twenty thousand kilometres of riding around Homebush in the last few years and Im still loving it.  Sydney is starting to become a great place to ride the bike.  Going on the road can be risky but alternatives are springing up all across the city, enabling families to get out and share the love of cycling with the kids.

I try to get around to new places as much as I can and describe what i see. so you can find a place thats near you or perfect for the skill level the kids are at.

Feel free to comment on what you see and do and let me know what you favourite family bike rides are...

  • Hello!

Just wanted to thank you for sharing your experience/information! Just completed a variation of the Cooks River cycleway today and it was super fun (save for the off-route parts). This was my second longer ride (still freaking out whenever we have to go on the road) but I’m keen to cycle some more in the future- probably drawing inspiration from your posts 🙂
